Sorry if we woke you in the middle of the night but someone in your neighborhood is fighting for their life. Sorry if we block the road and make you turn around but there's been a bad wreck with dying children on the ground.

When you see us coming you'll understand. Let us have the right of way someone needs a helping hand. Sometimes a child is chocking sometimes a broken leg. Sometimes a heart stops beating, and we got there to late.

So if you see us crying when we think we are alone you'll know we had a "bad" one and were feeling mighty low. We don't do it for the money - you know we don't get paid. We don't do it for the glory but for a life that might get saved.

Somewhere deep within us our souls are crying out "We are here to help our neighbors in their hour of pain and doubt." God gave us something special to help us see you through, we do it because we are needed and we care about you too.

Update:

On Wednesday, May 12th, 2010, The Elbert County Board of County Commissioners, at the recommendation of the Elbert County Fire Chiefs Association, downgraded the county wide burn ban for all unincorporated areas of Elbert County back to a Stage I level. This will remain in effect until further notice. Recent moisture received in the county has reduced the fire danger.

Under the Stage I restrictions, no open burning is allowed. The safe use of charcoal and gas grills are allowed and not affected by this ban. As always, contact your local fire protection district for burn permits. Violation of the burn restriction carries penalties for 1st time offenses of $110.00 as set forth in the county burn restriction ordinance 06-01.

Fire danger is lower. High winds and a few warm days can quickly dry out prairie grasses and create fire fuels. With the Memorial day holiday just around the corner, please use extreme caution with permissible fireworks. For more information on permissible fireworks, contact your local fire protection district, or visit http://www.elbertcounty-co.gov/dept_emergency.php for firework guidance.

For further information call the Elbert County Office of Emergency Management at 303.805.6131 or your local Fire Protection District. Elbert Fire Protection District Residents can call 303-648-3000 or visit www.elbertfire.com for information about burn permits.

Volunteer w/ Elbert Fire

Volunteerism is a tradition in the United States.  American's have a long history of forming voluntary groups of citizens to work on common problems and interests, and volunteering is one of the most commonplace activities in our society today.

Emergency medical services have depended on volunteer support for many years.  The importance of volunteers to the delivery of emergency medical services cannot be overstated.  Rural America relies almost totally on the volunteer system to provide EMS and fire services in a timely manner.

Join the 19 men and women on the Elbert Volunteer Fire Department.  FREE training.  Can lead to a career as a firefighter or EMT.
